LUMINARA – Ons Levend Artistiek Programma
LUMINARA is het artistieke onderzoeksplatform van de Fara Tekan Nursu Foundation. Elke voorstelling ontstaat ter plekke, een unieke ontmoeting van live muziek, beweging, stem, beeld en nieuwe media. Zonder vast script leidt aanwezigheid, intuïtie en diep luisteren tot een gedeeld ervaringsveld waarin performers en publiek samen deelnemen aan een collectief proces van waarneming en reflectie.
Onze Praktijk
Ons werk volgt de Flow-Method, ontwikkeld door Sara Behrad en Farhad Foroutanian. Deze procesgerichte methode combineert intuïtieve beweging, zintuiglijk bewustzijn, spontane compositie en spirituele principes. Het lichaam wordt gezien als drager van kennis, geheugen en emotionele waarheid, waardoor kunst levend, vrij en authentiek blijft, ook op professioneel niveau.

Live Theatre Academy — Smeltkroes voor Jonge Kunstenaars
Opgericht in 2014 in Teheran door Sara Behrad en Farhad Foroutanian, bood de Live Theatre Academy een zeldzaam toevluchtsoord voor artistieke vrijheid. Hier konden jonge performers, beeldend kunstenaars, musici en denkers hun eigen stem ontdekken en experimenteren met vormen van expressie die elders werden onderdrukt.
In plaats van herhaling en gehoorzaamheid, stond de Academy voor een procesgerichte aanpak: improvisatie, beweging en interdisciplinair creëren leerden studenten hun fysieke intelligentie, innerlijke waarheid en moed te ontwikkelen. Veel van Iran’s onafhankelijke kunstenaars van vandaag zijn hier grootgebracht.
Vanaf het begin omarmde de Academy internationale uitwisseling. Buitenlandse artiesten, regisseurs en docenten gaven workshops en laboratoria, waardoor jonge kunstenaars werden blootgesteld aan mondiale praktijken, vaste ideeën over theater werden uitgedaagd en een levende brug tussen culturen werd geslagen.
Ondanks zware beperkingen legde de Academy de basis voor een nieuwe artistieke taal die nu internationaal voortleeft via Fara Tekan Nursu en LUMINARA. Ze heeft niet alleen kunstenaars gevormd, maar mensen die vrij denken, voelen en creëren — een erfenis die nog steeds het hart vormt van alles wat wij doen.

FARA TEKAN & Free Motion (2016)
De Geboorte van een Kernachtige Artistieke Taal
FARA TEKAN & Free Motion ontstond in 2016 uit intensief onderzoek naar bewegingsimprovisatie en fysiek theater in ondergrondse ruimtes in Teheran, waar artistieke vrijheid beperkt was en elke voorstelling moed, vertrouwen en aanwezigheid vergde.
Uit dit proces kwam het kernconcept FARA TEKAN voort: een manier van werken waarin beweging, stilte, adem en innerlijk bewustzijn de taal van expressie vormen. Drie intieme voorstellingen—Dance in the Dark, Headless and Light Tower en Free Motion—brachten performers en publiek samen in belichaamde, improviserende ontmoetingen, wat wij stille rituelen van verzet noemen.
In een context van beperkingen werd het lichaam een plek van vrijheid. Subtiele beweging, stilte en gedeelde aanwezigheid creëerden een collectief veld van bewustzijn dat beperkingen, angst en controle zacht maar krachtig uitdaagde. Het artistieke DNA van deze underground-werken leeft voort in LUMINARA en de Fara Tekan Nursu Flow-Method, en vormt de spirituele en esthetische basis van onze internationale praktijk.
Free Motion-trainingen voor undergrounddansers
In 2017 werd Sara’s bewegingspraktijk Free Motion, in samenwerking met Iris van Peppen, in Iran een krachtige vorm van artistiek verzet. Onder een nationaal dansverbod vond de praktijk manieren om te bestaan via culturele samenwerkingen met de Nederlandse ambassade, waardoor voorstellingen en onderzoek binnen beschermde kaders mogelijk waren.
Een tweeweekse intensieve training bood 20 jonge undergrounddansers een unieke kans om bewegingsimprovisatie, belichaming en fysiek theater te verkennen. Het project culmineerde in een publieke presentatie in het hart van Teheran, waarbij hun werk, ondanks politieke en culturele beperkingen, een gedeelde ruimte vond.
Free Motion maakte beweging tot een artistieke taal én politieke verklaring. Het bevestigde dat het menselijke lichaam het recht heeft om vrij te spreken, bewegen en bestaan, en legde de basis voor de geest van moed, openheid en belichaamde vrijheid die nog steeds het hart vormt van Fara Tekan Nursu.
Na vijf jaar verblijf en werk in Iran verhuisden Sara en Farhad in 2019 terug naar Nederland om de FARA TEKAN-Method en de LUMINARA-projecten internationaal te brengen. Hun vrije, open artistieke praktijk kreeg zo een wereldtoneel, waarbij elke voorstelling zowel een showcase van de Fara Tekan Nursu Flow-Method als een experimentele ontmoeting met het publiek werd.
Zodra de COVID-beperkingen versoepelden, presenteerden ze meerdere losse voorstellingen door heel Nederland. Deze intieme, improviserende ervaringen lieten het publiek de belichaamde taal van beweging, adem en aanwezigheid zelf beleven, en toonden de vitaliteit, authenticiteit en transformatieve kracht van hun werk.
Door deze projecten hebben Sara en Farhad het bereik van Fara Tekan Nursu wereldwijd vergroot. Ze bouwden bruggen tussen culturen, terwijl ze het kernethos van vrijheid, bewustzijn en gedeelde creatieve aanwezigheid trouw bleven.

Sara Behrad: Space Mover, Flow Leader & Inner Space Facilitator
Sara Behrad (°1979, Iran) is een multidisciplinaire kunstenaar en medeoprichter van Live Theatre Academy en het LUMINARA-project van de Fara Tekan Nursu Foundation. Ze studeerde Acteren, Regie en Scenario aan de Theateruniversiteit van Teheran (1998–2002), volgde gevorderde acteerstudies aan de Stanislavsky School en behaalde haar Master in Theater aan DASARTS in Amsterdam (2012–2014), met een onderzoek naar de onconventionele mogelijkheden van het podium.
Sara ziet kunst als een instrument voor transformatie en de “alchemie van licht in de duisternis.” Beweging en dans beschouwt ze als de essentie van de menselijke ervaring en een weg naar innerlijke balans en bevrijding van potentieel.
Door workshops en improviserende podiumervaringen faciliteert ze de synergie van resonantie, intuïtie en stilte, en creëert ze een brug tussen lichaam, geest en ziel. Via LUMINARA begeleidt Sara anderen om hun eigen flow te vinden en hun innerlijke ruimte te verkennen, zelfs in de duisternis.
Farhad Foroutanian: Beeldend Kunstenaar & Podiumregisseur
Farhad Foroutanian (°1957, Iran) is een ervaren theatermaker en conceptueel denker met een rijke internationale carrière. Na zijn start als acteur en zijn studie Beeldende Kunst in Teheran, ontwikkelde hij zich tot professioneel beeldend kunstenaar en cartoonist voor internationale uitgevers, waaronder het Nederlandse Vrij Nederland en Rotterdams Dagblad.
In 1986 emigreerde hij naar Nederland, waar hij de ACT Theatre Company oprichtte en pionier werd op het gebied van Interactief Theater. Hij is medeoprichter van de Live Theatre Academy (2014) en FARA TEKAN (2016). Sinds zijn terugkeer naar Nederland in 2019 richt hij zich op het internationaal verspreiden van de FARA TEKAN-Method via LUMINARA.

He recognises the urgent need to close the gap between humanity and its core, and actively supports the LUMINARA project as an innovative platform translating profound wisdom into contemporary art forms. He sees the Stichting as a necessary voice advocating for authenticity and unity in a politically divided time.

The Fara Tekan Nursu Foundation is an internationally oriented cultural organization dedicated to the creation of contemporary stage art rooted in human consciousness, embodiment, and spiritual awareness.
We work at the intersection of performance, visual art, sound, movement, and new media, creating experiences that go beyond representation and become living encounters between artists and audiences.
Our purpose is not to produce entertainment, but to activate awareness, presence, and inner transformation through art.

Our Living Artistic Program
LUMINARA is the long-term artistic program and research platform of the Fara Tekan Nursu Foundation.
It functions as a living laboratory in which performances are not reproduced but born in the moment through the interaction of:

Each LUMINARA event is unique.
There is no fixed script — what emerges is guided by presence, intuition, and deep listening.
This creates a shared field of experience in which performers and audience meet not as separate roles, but as participants in a collective process of perception and reflection.
Our Artistic Practice
All our work is grounded in the Fara Tekan Nursu Flow-Method, developed by artistic founders Sara Behrad and Farhad Foroutanian.
This method is a process-based artistic practice that integrates:

Our Roots
The Foundation grew out of an underground artistic movement in Iran, where founders Sara Behrad and Farhad Foroutanian developed a radical form of free, improvised performance under conditions of cultural and political restriction.
Through projects such as Live Theatre Academy and FARA TEKAN, they created silent rituals of resistance—works that used movement, image, and presence to reclaim the right to free expression.
Since relocating to the Netherlands in 2019, this practice has evolved into the international platform now known as Fara Tekan Nursu and LUMINARA.

• Live Theatre Academy (2014, Tehran): After their Master’s studies in Nederland, Sara and Farhad founded this academy—a crucial, though constrained, space where performance and visual art were combined to train young artists.
• FARA TEKAN & Free Motion (2016): The core concept FARA TEKAN emerged here. These were intimate, improvised performances—stille rituelen van verzet (silent rituals of resistance).
In 2017 in Iran, in collaboration with Iris van Peppen, Sara’s movement and dance practice known as Free Motion became a powerful form of artistic resistance. Working under a national ban on dance, this practice found ways to exist through cultural collaborations with the Nederlandse ambassade (Dutch Embassy), allowing performances and research to take place within protected artistic frameworks.
The project included a two-week intensive training for 20 young underground dancers, providing them with a rare opportunity to explore movement improvisation, embodiment, and physical theatre. The training culminated in a public presentation in the heart of Tehran, bringing their work into a shared space despite cultural and political limitations.
These collaborations were not merely practical solutions — they shaped the core mentality of the Foundation: the belief in the fundamental right to free expression through the body.
Through Free Motion, movement became both an artistic language and a political statement. It affirmed that the human body has the right to speak, move, and exist freely, even when words and gestures are restricted.
This spirit of courage, openness, and embodied freedom continues to define the artistic and ethical foundation of Fara Tekan Nursu today.
In 2019, Sara and Farhad relocated to the Nederlanden to internationalize the FARA TEKAN-Method and the LUMINARA projects, and to spread their free, open artistic practice globally.

Sara Behrad: Space Mover, Flow Leader & Inner Space Facilitator
Sara Behrad (b. 1979, Iran) is a multidisciplinary artist who seamlessly weaves together the boundaries of performance, movement improvisation, and inner wisdom.
After graduating in Acting, Directing, and Scriptwriting from the Theater universiteit of Tehran (1998–2002), she pursued advanced studies in Acting at the Stanislavsky School and earned her Master in Theater from (DASARTS) School in Amsterdam (2012–2014), where her research focused on exploring the unconventional possibilities of the stage.
She is the Co-Founder of Live Theatre Academy(2014).
As the visionary co-founder of the Luminara project—a core initiative under the Fara Tekan Fountain Foundation—Sara views art as a transformative tool for “The alchemy of light within the darkness.”
Her artistic leadership is deeply rooted in her inner source of wisdom, years of spiritual research & experiences, including Vedic traditions, Mantras, Tibetan wisdom, and the science of Jyotish.
Sara perceives movement and dance as the fundamental essence of the human experience—a path to achieving inner balance and touching the liberation of one’s potential.
By focusing on the synergy of resonance, intuition, and the power of silence, she facilitates workshops and improvisational stage experiences that manifest the “unity of being.”
Through Luminara, she creates a sacred bridge between body, mind, and soul, guiding others to find their own flow within the darkness.
Farhad Foroutanian: Visual artist & Stage director
Farhad Foroutanian (b. 1957, Iran) is an experienced theatre maker and concept thinker with a rich international career. After starting as an actor and studying Fine Arts in Tehran, he became a professional visual artist and cartoonist for international publishers, including the Dutch Vrij Nederland and Rotterdams Dagblad. He emigrated to the Nederlanden in 1986, founded ACT Theatre Company, and became a pioneer of Interactief Theater (Interactive Theatre). He co-founded Live Theatre Academy (2014) and FARA TEKAN (2016). Since returning to the Nederlanden in 2019, he focuses on internationalizing the FARA TEKAN-Method through LUMINARA.

Is an expert in intercultural communication, diversity, and inclusion, with extensive experience in developing programmes and training for cultural sensitivity and connection (as seen in her work for the Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken and the education sector). Maretta is driven by the mission to promote eenheid (unity) and sees LUMINARA as a powerful tool to bring people from different cultures together through shared, sensory experiences. She reinforces the inclusive, cross-border character of the Stichting.
Jan Heerkens: Penningmeester (Treasurer)
Is an experienced strategist and organisation consultant, specializing in managing change processes. With a strong background in the publieke sector (public sector) and education (e.g., Rijksuniversiteit Groningen), he brings vital expertise in policy, strategy, and project management. Jan supports Fara Tekan Nursu in translating its artistic vision into a sustainable, professionally organized practice, ensuring a clear operational course.
